We have unique jurisdiction over Tasmania Police to:
- deal with misconduct complaints against designated public officers
- deal with serious misconduct complaints against any police officer
- provide advice to police on conducting investigations into misconduct
- audit how police have dealt with police misconduct
- assume responsibility for and complete an investigation into misconduct started by police
- conduct own-motion investigations into alleged misconduct by designated public officers or into police misconduct generally
- conduct own-motion investigations into policies, practices or procedures in relation to misconduct, and
- request the Commissioner of Police to take action or conduct further investigations.
